Grand View Girls’ Weekend
Round up your favorite people for a weekend of relaxing, laughing, and doing exactly as little as you please.
High on a Connecticut hillside sits a campground with a grand view — and a grander story. Long before the RVs, this was the Grand View Resort, where city families danced away their summers. It was, honestly, just like the movie. Come make your own memories.
Grand View is a family-run campground spread across 22.5 rolling acres of the Moodus countryside. Full-hookup and water-and-electric sites, a handful of tent sites, and a few charming cottages — all of them looking out over that same grand view that started it all back in 1946.
Kids, grandparents, camping clubs, reunions, and old friends: you’re all welcome here. Days are for horseshoes, pickleball, and cloud-gazing. Nights are for campfires under one of the biggest, starriest skies in Connecticut. Playground coming soon
Read our storyIn 1946 the Pivnick family looked out from a hillside on their Moodus dairy farm and pictured a place where city families could escape for the summer. They built a hotel, a playhouse, cottages, and a swimming pool — and for thirty years, this was the place to be.
“Nobody puts Grand View in a corner.”
Dance halls and poolside afternoons, romance and fireflies — the resorts of Moodus were the Connecticut cousins of the Catskills. Then, by the mid-1970s, cheap air travel and cruising drew the crowds elsewhere, and the grand old resorts faded into memory.
Grand View spent years as a basketball camp and a heritage retreat before falling quiet. Having lived across the road for sixty years, Valarie and her late husband Don couldn’t let it go. They restored what they could, carved out modern campsites, and brought the grand view back to life — this time for campers.
The whole history →Simple pleasures, big skies, and plenty of room to spread out.
Big, level sites with full hookups or water and electric — room for the rig and the awning, with that grand view out front.
A handful of shaded tent sites for folks who like to keep it simple and close to the ground.
A few cozy cottages for when you’d rather leave the tent at home — a nod to the resort’s original cabins.
Horseshoe pits, a basketball court, pickleball, ladder golf, frisbee golf, and corn hole — pick your friendly rivalry.
Put your feet up by the fire and take in one of the darkest, most star-filled skies in Connecticut.
A brand-new playground is on the way — more room for the littlest campers to run.
Groups of friends return year after year and call it their special place. Here’s why.
